The United Nations and Sudanese conflict parties reached an agreement on humanitarian access.
The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, stated on November 17th local time that the United Nations has reached an agreement with both sides of the Sudanese armed conflict on humanitarian access. Fletcher said that he recently held separate meetings with the Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Burhan, and representatives of the Sudan Rapid Support Forces, reaching a "strong" agreement with both parties to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid supplies into Sudan. According to the agreement, both sides of the Sudanese armed conflict will provide safe passages for United Nations convoys to enter various regions of Sudan and for civilians to pass through. Fletcher stated that the next step will focus on the implementation of the agreement. He pointed out that currently about two-thirds of the Sudanese population are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
