ByteDance Seed's core member of the language model team, Qiao Siyuan, has left his job and joined Meta.

According to media reports, Qiao Siyuan, a core member of the ByteSeed large language model team, recently left and joined Meta. Qiao Siyuan graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University with a bachelor's degree, and after graduating with a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 2021, he joined Google and worked in AI research at Google Brain and Google DeepMind teams. In early 2025, Wu Yonghui, Vice President of Research at Google DeepMind, joined Byte to lead the Seed team, with Qiao Siyuan also joining Byte. In addition, core members of the Seed visual model research team Jiang Lu and Tian Zhi left in the middle of this year, with Jiang Lu joining Apple. Jiang Lu joined Byte in February 2024, responsible for video generation AI research, and was previously the project research lead for Google VideoPoet; Tian Zhi joined Byte in mid-2023 and was a technical backbone of the AI startup company Lightyears Beyond, serving as a mentor for Byte's top AI talent program TopSeed. Sources say that Byte still maintains a high density of talent. It is understood that Seed focuses on certain research areas and encourages exploring different technological directions to address complex problems.
