Visa and Mastercard propose to reduce swipe fees.

During early trading on Tuesday Eastern Time, Visa rose by 0.1% and Mastercard fell by 0.1%. Prior to this, both companies announced that they had reached a preliminary agreement to lower interchange fees by 0.1 percentage points over five years and provide merchants with more flexibility, although retail groups criticized the plan and it still needs approval from the courts.
