On the 10th, US President Trump held a closed-door meeting with Syrian regime leader Salaa at the White House. Unlike usual receptions for foreign leaders, Trump did not greet Salaa at the main entrance of the White House, and Salaa did not arrive in a decorated vehicle with his country's flag, instead entering the White House quietly through a side door. Before their closed-door meeting in the Oval Office, the media was not allowed to ask questions or take photographs. After the meeting, Trump praised Salaa as a "strong leader" and stated that the US government would help Syria, which is currently undergoing a political transition, achieve "success". US Secretary of State Pompeo issued a statement on the same day, announcing the suspension of sanctions imposed on Syria under the Caesar Act to support Syria's economic reconstruction and foreign exchange. The US Treasury Department also announced on the same day that the executive order issued by Trump in May to exempt Syria from sanctions would be extended for another 180 days.
