Due to insufficient power supply, two major data centers located in NVIDIA headquarters have been idle for several years.
According to reports, due to the inability of the local utility company to provide power, the two data center projects of American data center suppliers Digital Realty and Stack Infrastructure in Santa Clara, California may remain idle for several years, which is also the location of NVIDIA's headquarters. Digital Realty applied to build a data center in 2019, and the project is currently vacant and has not been fully operational; Stack's 48-megawatt project in the area is also vacant. The city-owned utility company Silicon Valley Power is still working to increase its power capacity, and according to a report from the Santa Clara City Council in May, the city currently has 57 operational or under construction data centers. Previous reports have suggested that by 2035, the power demand generated by American AI computing power may more than double.
