On November 10th local time, the Paris Court of Appeal in France held a hearing to review the temporary release application filed by the legal team of former French President Sarkozy. According to judicial procedures, the release application hearing does not involve the defendant appearing in court. It is not yet confirmed whether Sarkozy will personally speak at the hearing, but it is expected that he will express his position through video. His lawyers believe that the current detention is "neither necessary nor in line with the spirit of the law", while the prosecution argues that given the seriousness of the case, continuing the detention is still justified. The Paris Court of Appeal has not yet announced whether the release decision has been approved. A decision is expected to be made in the coming days. On October 21st local time, former French President Sarkozy went to La Sant prison in Paris to begin serving his sentence. He was sentenced to five years in prison by the Paris Criminal Court on September 25th for allegedly illegally accepting campaign funding from the former Libyan leader Gaddafi. Part of the sentence can be served at home under electronic monitoring.
