A truck in Gansu Linxia is rumored to be discharging pollutants into the river. Local authorities have reported that they are currently investigating and dealing with the situation.
Journalists learned from the Linxia City Branch of the Ecological Environment Bureau of Linxia Prefecture in Gansu Province that at around 7 p.m. on November 8th, a netizen posted a video on a social media platform about "suspected pollution discharge from vehicles on the Da Xia River, a tributary of the upper reaches of the Yellow River." After the video was released, the municipal committee and government immediately organized the ecological environment, water management, public security, and other departments to rush to the scene for verification. The ecological environment department filed a case for investigation, and samples were taken that night for water quality and residual water from the vehicles.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on November 8th, Yang and Du drove a privately owned fish transport vehicle with license plate number Chuang J6***2 to transport fish fry from a fish farm in Linxia City. Because the vehicle had previously transported other types of fish, in order to prevent cross-infection of the fish, potassium permanganate powder was poured into the tank for cleaning and disinfection. Approximately 6 cubic meters of water from the tank was discharged into a drainage channel connected to the Da Xia River. According to sampling and testing of the residual water in the tank, in accordance with the "Comprehensive Sewage Discharge Standard," the water discharged into the river was classified as general sewage. Water quality samples taken from the surrounding environment met the Class III standard of the "Surface Water Environmental Quality Standard."
The Linxia City Branch of the Ecological Environment Bureau of Linxia Prefecture stated that the individuals involved in discharging into the water and dumping waste may have violated relevant provisions of the "Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China," and the ecological environment law enforcement department is currently investigating and handling the case according to procedures.
