Caroline Pham, acting chair of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, confirmed a report by CoinDesk that the agency is in direct discussions with regulated exchanges to launch cryptocurrency spot trading next month, including leveraged products. Pham confirmed the news in a post on social platform X - in response to the CoinDesk report published on Sunday morning, she replied "true," even though the U.S. federal government shutdown has forced other crypto-related policy measures to be delayed. The report indicates that Pham has been in talks with "designated contract markets" exchanges under CFTC regulation to introduce cryptocurrency spot trading products involving margin, leverage, and financing. These exchanges include financial giants such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Chicago Board Options Exchange, Intercontinental Exchange, as well as cryptocurrency native companies such as Coinbase's derivatives division, prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket US.
