The US military's two types of unmanned combat aircrafts completed their first flight.
Recently, two types of unmanned combat aircraft from the US Air Force successfully completed their maiden flights. US media referred to this as an "unprecedented development speed, achieving the transition from concept to test flight in less than two years." According to US plans, these unmanned combat aircraft will work in coordination with traditional manned fighters to "continue to maintain air superiority." However, there are still many challenges facing unmanned aerial combat. In April 2024, the US Air Force selected Aanduril Industries and General Dynamics, Inc. to be responsible for the research and production of two prototype unmanned combat aircraft, YFQ-44A and YFQ-42A, in the first phase of its "Joint Combat Aircraft Program." The recent maiden flight was completed by Aanduril Industries' YFQ-44A, while the YFQ-42A developed by General Dynamics, Inc. completed its maiden flight in August of this year. It is understood that the US Air Force plans to build a fleet of at least 1,000 artificially intelligent-driven unmanned combat aircraft.
