New research unexpectedly discovered a super powerful antibiotic from drug manufacturing.
Monash University in Australia introduced in a press release that researchers from the university, in a joint project with the University of Warwick in the UK, have discovered an antibiotic called prethiodactamycin C lactone, which is an intermediate chemical produced in the preparation process of the commonly used antibiotic dactamycin A. This research found that the intermediate prethiodactamycin C lactone in the synthesis process of dactamycin A has antibacterial activity against a variety of Gram-positive bacteria more than 100 times higher than the original antibiotic dactamycin A, including the most troublesome methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus in the medical field.
