A bird flu outbreak occurred in a Dutch farm, resulting in the culling of 120,000 poultry.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Safety and Nature of the Netherlands said in a statement on the evening of the 7th that highly pathogenic avian influenza cases were found at a laying hen farm in Friesland province. To prevent the spread of avian influenza, the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority under the ministry has decided to cull about 120,000 poultry at the farm. According to the statement, transport restrictions will be immediately imposed within a 10-kilometer radius of the affected farm, prohibiting the removal of poultry, hatching eggs, table eggs, as well as the transportation of poultry manure, waste bedding, and other animals and animal products from poultry farms. The statement also mentioned that another poultry farm within a 1-kilometer radius of the affected farm has already been sampled for the virus and has begun a 14-day enhanced monitoring, while three other poultry farms within a 3-kilometer radius are undergoing quarantine screening. The statement stated that within a 10-kilometer radius of the affected farm, there are 27 commercial poultry farms.
