American Airlines announces a large-scale flight reduction plan.
On November 7th, local time, United Airlines and American Airlines announced that due to a 4% flight reduction mandate imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration, hundreds of flights will be canceled in the coming days. American Airlines will cut 220 flights on the 8th; while United Airlines will cancel an average of about 200 flights per day over the next few days. Due to the shortage of air traffic controllers and ground staff caused by the shutdown, the U.S. government ordered a reduction in the number of flights at 40 major airports across the country starting on the 7th. According to data from flight tracking websites, as of the afternoon of the 7th, more than 3500 flights in the U.S. have been delayed and approximately 1000 flights have been canceled.
