Quantum computing company Quantinuum has officially launched its third generation quantum computer Helios, which significantly improves in terms of computational performance and quantum error correction capabilities. The team stated that although current quantum computers are still unable to run high-value algorithms such as simulations of new materials or financial modeling, the ion trap technology route used by Quantinuum using individual charged atoms as quantum bits is believed to have unique advantages in scalability and potentially more expansion potential compared to other superconducting circuit approaches.
