On the 7th local time, a majority opinion was formed by a panel of five justices of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court, rejecting former President Bolsonaro's appeal against his conviction for planning a coup. On September 11, the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court announced that Bolsonaro was guilty of planning a coup and sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison. Bolsonaro became the first former president in Brazilian history to be convicted for planning a coup. Bolsonaro's defense team submitted an appeal to the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court on September 27, requesting a review of the conviction for planning a coup and other charges in September.
