Slovenia decided to deploy military forces to assist the police in patrolling the border.
The Slovenian government decided on November 6 to activate a provision of the Defense Law, allowing the deployment of the military to assist the police in joint border patrols, and granting law enforcement and judicial authorities more power through a new law to address public security issues following a recent deadly incident in the country. In late October, a 48-year-old man was attacked outside a bar in New Mesto in southeastern Slovenia and later died in hospital due to severe injuries. The suspect is a local Romani person. The incident has sparked widespread public concern, leading to the resignations of Interior Minister Botjan Poklukar and Justice Minister Andreja Kati.
