Nearly 60 percent of the Antarctic ice shelves could disappear by the year 2300.
A comprehensive study analysis recently published in the journal "Nature" suggests that if the current high emissions trajectory continues globally, by the year 2300, as much as 59% of the Antarctic ice shelf could completely disappear, potentially leading to a severe consequence of global sea level rise up to 10 meters. The model analysis also indicates that if global warming can be kept within 2 degrees Celsius, the loss of ice will be significantly reduced. This result underscores the extreme urgency of achieving a low carbon emission pathway, which directly relates to the protection of the Antarctic ice shelf and the safety of coastal regions worldwide.
