African stock market closing report: South African stock index closed up by about 1.4%, following the performance of gold prices rising towards $3990.

On Wednesday, the South African FTSE/JSE Africa Top 40 Index closed up 1.38% , approaching 101,500 points. Gold Fields, with a increase of 4.46%, led the gains, Northam Platinum rose 2.85% ranking fourth, AngloGold Ashanti Gold Corporation rose 2.22% ranking ninth in terms of gains, Prosus rose 0.11% with the smallest increase, while Naspers closed down 0.10% with the worst performance.
