Nagel refutes the claim that Eurozone inflation will stabilize slightly below the 2% target level.
European Central Bank Governing Council member Weidmann refuted claims that inflation in the euro area will stabilize slightly below the 2% target level. The President of the German Central Bank, Weidmann, stated at an event in Paris on Wednesday: "I know there is a view currently that our inflation may be below the target level. But at least for the time being, I believe that our inflation level will be very close to the target in the medium term." The European Central Bank currently predicts that next year's consumer price inflation will be 1.7%, and 1.9% in 2027. The bank will update its economic forecasts in December, at which time some officials and analysts expect the inflation forecast for 2028 to also be below 2%.
