Jiangsu Provincial Communications Administration and Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology recently jointly launched a special action called "millisecond computing in urban areas" to create an unprecedented high-speed, stable, low-latency computing network, allowing network users to enjoy the ultimate digital service with "millisecond-level" response like using tap water. "Millisecond computing" means that commands issued by computers, industrial intelligent devices, and other terminals can reach the city's data processing center and receive feedback within a very short time of one-thousandth to one-hundredth of a second. How fast is this speed? It is about 100 milliseconds for a person to blink, but future network latency will be 10 to 100 times faster than that. To achieve this goal, the special action will focus on three aspects: first, promote "millisecond interconnection of computing centers", including improving the interconnection network architecture between computing centers, accelerating the deployment of high-performance networks between computing centers, etc.; second, promote "millisecond access to computing resources", including improving the layout of computing access networks in key locations, promoting the deployment of optical network equipment to comprehensive access points and industrial park users, etc.; third, promote "millisecond access to computing applications", including optimizing network latency from computing application terminals to servers, optimizing communication efficiency for artificial intelligence training and reasoning, etc. The urban area network is the network infrastructure that connects users to the computing power in the "last mile". Establishing the "millisecond computing in urban areas" channel will effectively support the rapid innovation and popularization of computing applications, and promote the development of computing from "usable" to "user-friendly". According to the plan, by 2027, Jiangsu will have basically completed the construction of a high-efficiency and smooth urban "millisecond computing" network system covering the entire province.
