China and Georgia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Ending the Upgrade Negotiations of the China-Georgia Free Trade Agreement.

On November 4th, under the witness of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Georgian Prime Minister Gobadze, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Kovalevsky signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia on the Conclusion of the China-Georgia Free Trade Agreement." The China-Georgia FTA is the first free trade agreement initiated and concluded by China after the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative, and also the first free trade agreement reached between China and countries in the Euro-Asian region. The agreement officially came into effect in January 2018 and has played an important role in promoting the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries. China and Georgia started the upgrade negotiations in July 2025. After two rounds of negotiations, the agreement was expanded and improved in areas such as sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical trade barriers, investment, and e-commerce, officially concluding the upgrade negotiations. The upgrade of the agreement will add new momentum to the development of the economic and trade relations between the two countries based on mutual trust and mutually beneficial cooperation, promoting bilateral trade and investment, facilitating cooperation between enterprises of the two countries, and creating a more transparent and convenient business environment. After the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, both sides will go through their respective domestic procedures to promote the early signing and implementation of the agreement upgrade protocol.
