Report: Companies donating to the new White House banquet hall hold $279 billion in federal government contracts.
The American nonprofit organization "Defend the Public Interest Organization" released a report on November 3 stating that the majority of known companies sponsoring the construction of the new White House banquet hall have significant interests with the U.S. government, including holding a total of $279 billion in federal government contracts. The report says that two-thirds of the known 24 sponsoring companies have contracts with the federal government. These contracts were all signed in the last 5 years. The report argues that the donations used for the White House banquet hall actually constitute a "significant, unavoidable, and irreparable conflict of interest". Of these 24 companies, 14 are subjects of ongoing federal law enforcement actions, or law enforcement actions against them have been halted by the Trump administration, including tech giants like Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, and Microsoft.
