FAO: Nearly 1.7 billion people globally are facing the threat of reduced crop production due to land degradation.
The latest report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations points out that nearly 1.7 billion people worldwide are facing the threat of reduced crop production due to land degradation. This "widespread and silent crisis" is not only eroding agricultural productivity, but also posing a serious challenge to the health of the global ecosystem. The analysis by the Food and Agriculture Organization indicates that land degradation is often caused by multiple factors, including natural factors such as soil erosion, salinization, as well as human activities. Deforestation, overgrazing, and unsustainable irrigation practices have become the main driving factors of current land degradation.
