The US car safety regulatory agency is investigating whether there are defects in the door handles of some Tesla (TSLA.O) vehicles. The investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was launched a few days after a significant increase in consumer complaints, primarily reflecting that battery malfunctions have rendered the exterior door handles unusable. Owners of the popular Tesla Model Y have reported issues where the door handles fail due to low battery voltage, leading to instances where children have been trapped inside the vehicle in some cases.
