On October 31st, the government of Trinidad and Tobago passed a motion in parliament to extend the national "state of public emergency" by three months. The government stated that the extension was necessary to give the security, judicial, and prison systems more time to complete current operations against criminal gangs and organized crime networks. Additionally, due to the tense situation in the Caribbean region as a result of the US military's anti-drug operations, the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force was placed on "level one alert" on October 31st. The police also stated that "all leave will be restricted" until further notice.
