Reporters learned from the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences that the national major scientific infrastructure - the High-Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source located in Beijing's Huairou Science City passed the technical acceptance on October 29th. The expert group for acceptance consisted of 10 academicians, 8 researchers, and professors. The expert group believes that after more than six years of construction, the comprehensive performance of the high-energy light source has reached the international leading level among similar devices, achieving a generational leap in China's synchrotron radiation light sources. It has also cultivated a group of high-level talents and will provide strong support for meeting national strategic needs, solving major frontier scientific problems, and core key technologies. The high-energy synchrotron radiation light source is like a "super eye" for exploring the microcosm, capable of emitting light 10 trillion times brighter than the sun once completed. As the world's highest brightness fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source, it will help researchers better "see" the microcosmic world, revealing the microstructure of materials and their generation evolution process and mechanism. The light source mainly consists of accelerators and beamline stations, capable of accommodating no less than 90 high-performance beamline stations. The first phase includes the construction of 14 user beamline stations and 1 test beamline station, providing X-rays with energy up to 300,000 electron volts. While meeting the needs of national major strategic requirements and research needs for industrial core innovation capabilities, the high-energy synchrotron radiation light source will also lead the industry to achieve leapfrog development, providing strong support for application research and development in many fields such as engineering materials, chip microelectronics, new drug creation, petrochemicals, energy environment, and nanomaterials. The high-energy synchrotron radiation light source is the first fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source in Asia. The project officially started in June 2019 and is being constructed by the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
