On the news front, on November 5, HUTCHMED announced that sovleplenib has been granted Orphan Drug Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") for the treatment of autoimmune hemolytic anemia. This is the second FDA orphan drug designation received for sovleplenib, following the orphan drug designation for primary immune thrombocytopenia obtained in October 2026.
It is understood that sovleplenib is a novel, highly selective oral spleen tyrosine kinase ("Syk") inhibitor. In China, two new drug applications for sovleplenib for the treatment of primary immune thrombocytopenia and warm antibody autoimmune hemolytic anemia are currently under review by the National Medical Products Administration of China. These two applications are based on positive data from the pivotal ESLIM-01 and ESLIM-02 studies, respectively.
