AppLovin (APP.US) delivers "textbook" results: Q3 revenue surges 55%, net margin of 66% tops the advertising industry! $1.4 billion in buybacks in a single quarter
AppLovin (APP.US) released its third-quarter 2026 results (quarter ended September 30) after the U.S. market close on Wednesday. The advertising technology company once again delivered a "textbook" report card: revenue, net profit, and adjusted EBITDA all hit record quarterly highs, with profitability quality metrics far ahead of large advertising platforms.
BEIJING, Nov. 5 "AI + advertising" platform AppLovin (APP.US) released its Q3 2026 results (quarter ended Sept. 30) after the U.S. market close on Wednesday. The ad-tech company once again delivered a "textbook" report card: revenue, net profit and adjusted EBITDA all hit record quarterly highs, with profitability quality metrics far ahead of large advertising platforms.
Core results: Revenue up 55%, net margin as high as 66%
The report shows AppLovin achieved Q3 revenue of US$2.185 billion, up 55% year over year; net profit of US$1.439 billion, up 72% year over year, with a net margin as high as 66% (59% in the year-ago period); adjusted EBITDA of US$1.842 billion, up 59% year over year, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 84% (82% in the year-ago period). Diluted earnings per share were US$4.30, compared with US$2.45 in the year-ago period.
Looking at the longer stretch, growth momentum shows no sign of fading: in the first nine months of 2026, the company posted cumulative revenue of US$5.951 billion, up 56% year over year; cumulative net profit of US$3.911 billion, up 75% year over year; cumulative adjusted EBITDA of US$5.013 billion, up 61% year over year, with a margin of 84%.
Cash flow performance was equally strong: Q3 operating cash flow was about US$1.429 billion, and free cash flow was about US$1.418 billion, up about 35% year over year. As of quarter-end, the company held US$3.174 billion in cash and equivalents and US$3.516 billion in long-term debt.
Large-scale buybacks: US$1.4 billion in a single quarter, total authorization raised to US$3.6 billion
AppLovin continues to pursue an aggressive shareholder return strategy: in Q3 it repurchased and withheld 4.1 million Class A common shares for about US$1.4 billion nearly equivalent to all of the quarter's free cash flow; cumulative buyback spending in the first nine months has reached US$2.811 billion. The board also approved an additional US$3.2 billion buyback authorization, bringing total buyback authorization as of the end of October to US$3.6 billion, more than one-tenth of the company's current market value. Driven by both strong profit growth and continued buybacks, the company's shares outstanding have fallen to about 331 million.
Q4 guidance: Revenue seen up to US$2.395 billion, margin 85%
The company's Q4 guidance continues the dual tone of high growth and high margins: revenue is expected at US$2.365 billion to US$2.395 billion (midpoint about US$2.38 billion, up about 9% sequentially); adjusted EBITDA of US$1.995 billion to US$2.025 billion, corresponding to a margin of 84% to 85% meaning the upper end of the guidance range implies further margin expansion from Q3.
Market backdrop: A key battle after the selloff
Worth noting is the context: this earnings report was released amid sharp volatility in AppLovin's stock price: on Oct. 30, the stock plunged 10.36% in a single day to US$228.50, while by the regular trading session on Nov. 4 the stock had rebounded 10.69% to US$271.75 and the earnings report was released right after the close that day. As a company viewed by the market as a benchmark for "AI advertising commercialization," AppLovin's report card 55% revenue growth combined with an 84% EBITDA margin provides renewed confirmation for its valuation logic; the sequential acceleration and continued margin expansion implied by the midpoint of Q4 guidance are a direct response to the recent pullback in sentiment around "AI trades." After the earnings release, company management held a conference call after the U.S. market close on Wednesday, with the market closely watching commentary on the advertising business driven by the Axon AI engine and new growth curves such as e-commerce advertising.
