On November 2, Hang Seng Indexes Company and Cyberport announced at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026 that they are joining forces to promote a one-stop index design solution based on the "Thematic Index Exploration Programme," using generative AI to enhance the efficiency of thematic index development and to respond more swiftly to market demand for thematic investment products. Thematic investing has drawn considerable market attention in recent years. To improve the efficiency of thematic index development, Hang Seng Indexes Company and Cyberport officially launched the second phase of the "Index Innovation Lab" project, the "Thematic Index Exploration Programme," in June this year.
Following a three-month corporate recruitment drive and engagement with the innovation and technology community, Hang Seng Indexes Company collaborated with Cyberport and its community member INF Infinite Lightyear to successfully develop an index design solution using generative AI for application in Hang Seng Indexes Company's thematic index development process. The solution is also the first financial application case to receive computing power support from the Cyberport AI Supercomputing Centre and be actually adopted by a financial institution.
This one-stop solution covers the entire index design process, including analyzing the backgrounds of listed companies and their associated themes, screening constituent stocks, and proposing weight allocation recommendations. The solution is expected to increase the processing efficiency of identifying listed companies and related data by up to 5 times, while ensuring consistency in index operation processes and traceability of relevant data.
Li Wenlong, Chairman of Hang Seng Indexes Company, said that the successful development of the generative AI-powered index design solution by Hang Seng Indexes Company, Cyberport and community member INF Infinite Lightyear helps further enhance the efficiency of thematic index development and respond more flexibly to market needs. The company will continue to work closely with its long-term partner Cyberport and the innovation and technology community to jointly develop and launch innovative index solutions, and will also actively explore collaborating with product issuers to develop linked products for relevant thematic indices, supporting the market application of thematic indices and contributing to the long-term development of Hong Kong's financial and innovation and technology sectors.
Chen Ximing, Chairman of Cyberport, pointed out that Cyberport has been committed to promoting the innovative development of AI and fintech, accelerating the translation and application of innovation outcomes by bringing together innovation and technology enterprises, industry partners and AI infrastructure resources. The financial services industry has extremely high requirements for data processing, system reliability and information security. The collaboration between Hang Seng Indexes Company and Cyberport community member INF Infinite Lightyear to develop the generative AI index design solution fully demonstrates local innovation and technology enterprises' ability to make good use of the computing power support of the Cyberport AI Supercomputing Centre to develop innovative solutions that meet enterprise-grade requirements. Cyberport will continue to facilitate collaboration between financial institutions and innovation and technology enterprises, promote the application of more AI technologies in financial services and various industries, and further consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international financial centre and innovation and technology hub.
