Hong Kong government announces new batch of special tourism projects covering themes such as industrial brands, miniature art, religious culture, and district features.
The Working Group on Developing Tourist Hotspots, led by Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing, will gradually roll out the next phase of four projects starting from the fourth quarter of 2026.
On October 16, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced that the Working Group on Developing Tourism Hotspots, led by Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing, will progressively roll out four projects under the next phase starting from the fourth quarter of 2026, providing visitors with more diversified tourism experiences with Hong Kong characteristics.
Cheuk Wing-hing said: As visitors to Hong Kong increasingly pursue in-depth tourism experiences, the authorities have been committed to identifying and integrating Hong Kong's potential tourism resources. By strengthening cross-departmental coordination and combining the efforts of various sectors of society, the nine tourism hotspot projects launched in the first phase have been well received. The working group will, starting from the end of this year, roll out in phases tourism hotspot projects covering themes such as industrial brands, miniature art, religious culture and district features, showcasing to visitors Hong Kong's unique cultural heritage and urban landscape.
Details of the four projects are as follows:
(1) Phase 2 Hong Kong Industrial Brand Tourism
The Hong Kong Industrial Brand Tourism Scheme has received an ideal response since its launch, and the next phase will further introduce different types of brands to provide visitors with more diverse choices. The new projects cover the Kowloon Motor Bus depot, the MTR "EncounterStation See" railway exhibition, and Beijing Tongrentang's Hong Kong production and research base, among others. Visitors may, through group-in group-out arrangements, visit the relevant brand facilities to learn about the brands' history and the production processes of the relevant products. The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong will continue to be commissioned to handle bookings and coordination work for local travel agents. The visit arrangements for the relevant projects are expected to be rolled out progressively from the fourth quarter of this year.
(2) Hong Kong Miniature City Exhibition
To enrich the tourism experience at Victoria Peak, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong will, starting from the fourth quarter of this year, recreate the Hong Kong Miniature City Exhibition at The Peak Tower. The new exhibition will feature brand-new exquisite miniature art exhibits, presenting in three dimensions Hong Kong's landmark buildings, local customs and lifestyle characteristics, allowing visitors to savour unique Hong Kong sentiments while touring Victoria Peak.
(3) Promoting In-depth Religious Culture Tours
To make good use of technology to enhance visitors' touring experience, the Chinese Temples Committee is progressively strengthening digitalisation and cultural promotion measures for temples under its direct management, including adding QR code display boards at temples and, through a mobile application, allowing visitors to learn about temple artefacts in an interactive manner and redeem cultural and creative souvenirs. The Government will also further study using temples as the core to connect historical buildings and monuments of cultural value across districts, creating roaming routes for in-depth temple culture tours.
(4) Yuen Long Good Season District Tourism Promotion Project
To promote the humanistic character of Yuen Long's urban-rural integration, the Yuen Long District Office will collaborate with district organisations to launch the Yuen Long Good Season project, encouraging visitors to explore Yuen Long's district features under different themes throughout the year (for example, visiting Yuen Long town centre during Tin Hau Festival to watch the grand parade, and visiting the district's natural ecological attractions in autumn and winter to look for red leaves and migratory birds). The project includes producing tourism maps, setting up a thematic website, and adding distinctive information boards near the town centre and rural landmarks, and is expected to be rolled out in phases from the fourth quarter of this year to the first quarter of next year.
The working group thanked the organisations and brands participating in the above projects for their active participation and support. The Government will continue to promote cross-sector collaboration, encourage the industry to continuously develop tourism projects that showcase Hong Kong's different characteristics, enrich visitors' experience in Hong Kong, and attract them to extend their stay and visit again.
