On Thursday, the U.S. stock sell-off intensified, with the Nasdaq plunging 1.23% and the AI hardware sector taking a heavy hit. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD.US) and SK Hynix (SKHY.US) fell over 6%, while Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US) and Intel Corporation (INTC.US) dropped more than 5%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR (TSM.US) declined over 4%, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) fell more than 3%, and Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US) dropped over 2%. The global stock market sell-off is intensifying, and the strong rally in AI trades this year is facing a systemic stress test. Analysts noted that the current turmoil was triggered by a combination of factors: U.S. CPI data came in above expectations, boosting market bets on further Federal Reserve rate hikes; a sharp plunge in CoreWeave bonds exacerbated a reassessment of financing risks in the AI sector; and fundamental doubts over whether AI investments can deliver commensurate returns are driving capital away from growth stocks toward safe-haven assets.
