On Tuesday, Oracle Corporation (ORCL.US) surged rapidly during intraday trading, rising more than 8% at one point. As of press time, it was up nearly 7%, at $141.80. On the news front, on September 29, intelligent data infrastructure company NetApp and Oracle Corporation announced a new fully managed storage service that natively brings enterprise-grade NetApp storage to Oracle Corporation Cloud Infrastructure OCI. The service natively brings NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities into the OCI environment, helping enterprises simplify the migration and management of critical AI and business workloads in the cloud. The OCI NetApp storage service is planned to become fully generally available within the next 12 months. The OCI NetApp storage service is an OCI-native fully managed storage service that brings the full suite of NetApp ONTAP data management capabilities to OCI. With this service, enterprises can migrate, run, secure, and modernize databases, enterprise applications, virtualized environments, electronic design automation / high-performance computing (EDA/HPC), highly regulated businesses, and AI data pipelines, while continuing to use their familiar storage operations models. Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cloud Storage and Services at NetApp, said: "Customers want to move AI and enterprise business to the cloud without sacrificing operational convenience, data management capabilities, and reliability. The OCI NetApp storage service gives users an authentic OCI cloud experience while also allowing them to use ONTAP's mature capabilities for data protection, migration, compliance governance, and multi-protocol access." Customers can manage this OCI NetApp storage service through the OCI console, software development kits, ONTAP application programming interfaces, and existing operational workflows. As an OCI-native service, it helps customers migrate their existing ONTAP-based businesses to the cloud while minimizing application refactoring and changes at the storage management level. For core business scenarios in large-scale, highly regulated industries, the OCI NetApp storage service extends this mature storage capability to OCI, delivering consistent data management, high availability, security capabilities, and predictable performance between on-premises and cloud environments. Konstantinos (kp) Papamiltiadis, Senior Vice President of Cloud Infrastructure Partner Business at Oracle Corporation, said: "Enterprises do not need to tear down and rebuild their entire data infrastructure when migrating to the cloud. The OCI NetApp storage service provides customers with a trusted, familiar path to the cloud, allowing enterprises to focus on the value of their data business itself rather than spending energy on underlying storage management." Alvaro Celis, Senior Vice President and Head of Commercial and Partner Ecosystem at NetApp, said: "By launching a native storage service based on ONTAP on OCI, we combine OCI's scale and performance advantages with NetApp's enterprise data capabilities to empower customers to run all kinds of core business workloads. This collaboration brings tangible value especially to highly regulated industries, making it easier for enterprises to migrate, modernize, and protect critical business applications on OCI."
