On Wednesday, SK Hynix (SKHY.US) saw its early gains expand to 5%, reaching a new high since its listing, now priced at $195.36, with a total market capitalization of $1.43 trillion. According to news reports, the latest forecast from S&P Global, Inc. on September 8 indicates that driven by strong demand for AI storage chips, SK Hynix is expected to announce a new round of stock repurchase plans in the fourth quarter of this year, with projected sizes ranging between 200 trillion to 400 trillion Korean won (approximately $28 billion). Furthermore, after completing a large-scale buyback, the company will still have the capacity to distribute generous dividends, adding a strong catalyst for the "Value-up" initiative by the South Korean government and the reconstruction of shareholder returns.
In addition, KB Securities released a research report on September 7 stating that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix's current storage chip inventories have fallen to less than 10 days, and demand for DRAM and NAND chips next year is expected to exceed supply by more than 10 percentage points, which could lead to a depletion of available storage chips for actual sales. KB Securities' head of research, Kim Dong-won, characterized this situation as a "historic shortage." The institution also pointed out that the stock prices of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have dropped by 38% from their peaks over the past three months, and their price-to-earnings ratio for next year's performance is only about three times, indicating they are "extremely undervalued." Both companies are listed as preferred choices in the semiconductor sector, with strong expectations for a revaluation rally to begin soon.
