US Stock Market Move | SK Hynix (SKHY.US) rose more than 6%, and may announce a stock buyback plan worth 40 trillion Korean won in the fourth quarter.
As of the time of publication, the stock has risen over 6%, trading at $187.99.
On Tuesday, SK Hynix (SKHY.US) saw its stock price rise, with an increase of over 6% as of the time of writing, reaching $187.99. According to market intelligence from S&P Global, fueled by the booming market for AI storage chips, Korea's two major semiconductor companies are generating record shareholder returns, and SK Hynix may announce a new round of stock buybacks worth up to 40 trillion won (approximately $28 billion) in the fourth quarter. Mohammad Hassan, Head of Asia Pacific Equity Dividend Forecasts at S&P, stated in an interview, "We expect that more buyback plans will be announced in the fourth quarter."
He remarked, "The lower limit for the new buyback round could be 20 trillion won, and it might even reach 40 trillion won again." He added that even with the implementation of a large-scale buyback, SK Hynix would still be capable of distributing "considerable, generous dividends."
Hassan noted that combined with Samsung Electronics' record dividend plan, SK Hynix's buyback strategy will set a new benchmark for the Korean market and encourage other companies to follow suit.
He commented that the dividend commitments made by these two industry leaders represent a significant positive for the Korean stock market. "More and more companies will emulate this approach because it establishes a new standard for the returns shareholders should expect."
