Meta (META.US) has launched a lightweight new artificial intelligence model that is small enough to run on a single computer, allowing users to download and customize this technology. On Monday, Meta stated that this new model, named Muse Glimmer, is a distilled version of the companys Muse Spark 1.2 model, designed with a focus on improving efficiency to minimize system requirements. According to Meta, Muse Glimmer has 30 billion parameters, and its size is small enough that it can operate with just one graphics card (GPU). Its primary applications will be concentrated on AI tasks related to agents, such as scheduling and file organization. The weights (numerical parameters that help the AI system make decisions) for Muse Glimmer will be available for download on Hugging Face. Meta also plans to provide the weights for a more powerful version of Muse Spark. Downloads will be free, but users will need to bear the cost of computing power. This initiative to release the AI model as open source under a licensing agreement echoes the competitive market model in Chinawhere startups like DeepSeek and Moonlight, as well as internet giants like Alibaba Group Holding Limited Sponsored ADR, have adopted this approach to attract the largest possible user base.
