On Friday, non-opioid painkiller developer Latigo Biotherapeutics (LTGO.US) debuted on the US stock market. As of this writing, the stock is up over 14%, trading at $20.53. Latigo is committed to developing non-opioid analgesics targeting the Nav1.8 sodium ion channel. Its core candidate, LTG-001, is an oral Nav1.8 inhibitor primarily used for treating moderate to severe acute pain, including postoperative pain. This drug aims to provide analgesic effects comparable to those of opioids while avoiding the risk of addiction. Nav1.8 is primarily expressed in peripheral pain-sensing neurons, and its inhibitors do not act on the central nervous system, thus lacking addictive properties.
