This transaction was disclosed in a Form 4 regulatory filing released after the U.S. stock market closed on Wednesday. A document from two days earlier indicated that the billionaire had expressed an intention to sell up to 15 million shares of Amazon.com, Inc., valued at over $4 billion, and this sale represents only a small portion of that plan.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, as the e-commerce retailer's stock price increased by 18% this year, Bezos's wealth grew by $38.7 billion, reaching $292 billion. Following strong revenue reports from its cloud computing business last week, Amazon.com, Inc. recently became the fifth company to exceed a market capitalization of $3 trillion.
