On August 4, during his opening remarks at the "HKBN Future Technology Forum: AI Network Computing Power," Hong Kongs Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Edward Yau, stated that Hong Kong has been encouraging enterprises at various levels to upgrade and transform through the use of technologies such as AI to enhance their competitiveness. Hong Kong not only aims to develop AI technology but also seeks to integrate AI into various industries, enabling innovative technology to truly become a new driving force for economic development and promoting the deep integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation. Edward Yau noted that artificial intelligence, networking, and computing power complement each other and are essential cornerstones for cultivating new productive forces and driving high-quality development. They are also indispensable core driving forces in Hong Kong's ambition to build an international innovation and technology hub. Among them, computing power serves as a critical foundation for the development of artificial intelligence and plays a key role in promoting scientific research innovation, facilitating the conversion of innovative achievements, and accelerating the digital transformation of industries. The Northern Metropolis is set to be the new engine for Hong Kongs future development and an important base for the advancement of innovative technology. The HKSAR government is making every effort to promote the construction of the Northern Metropolis, aiming to develop it into a new international innovation technology city under the "South for Finance, North for Innovation Technology" framework of the ShenZhen New Industries Biomedical Engineering layout. The government is also continuously improving digital infrastructure to provide stable and reliable computing power support for artificial intelligence, scientific research innovation, and enterprise digital transformation, thereby optimizing Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem and enhancing overall innovation capabilities and international competitiveness. With its unique advantages of being backed by the motherland and connected to the world, along with a robust telecommunications infrastructure, Hong Kong has consistently played the role of a regional communication hub, strengthening its strategic positioning for both internal connectivity and external outreach. To align with the importance of future technological development, the HKSAR government is committed to providing a favorable business environment and diverse support measures for the telecommunications industry and is actively preparing for the 6G era. In addition to promoting various funding programs to assist the industry in improving fiber optic and mobile network infrastructure, the government is also offering tax incentives for spectrum use and is actively enhancing regulatory frameworks for low-orbit satellites and the low-altitude economy, fully supporting national key areas of development, and continuously injecting new momentum into Hong Kong's economic growth. Faced with the current economic transformation and ongoing fluctuations in the external environment, technology-driven upgrades and transformations have become a major trend for enterprises. AI is accelerating empowerment across various sectors, bringing new momentum for enterprise innovation and industrial upgrading. In June of this year, the Hong Kong Commerce and Economic Development Bureau implemented a series of optimization measures under the "BUD Special Fund" (Special Fund for Developing Brands, Upgrading Transformation, and Expanding Domestic Markets) to provide more targeted funding for enterprises to implement AI application projects, assisting them in their upgrading and transformation. Enterprises can apply for funding for qualified projects that utilize AI, such as building AI chat systems for their websites, or using AI to ensure production lines meet regulatory standards in target markets, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and exploring more global business opportunities. Looking ahead, artificial intelligence, networking, and computing power will continue to reshape the global economic landscape and bring unprecedented development opportunities to Hong Kong. Through the collaboration of the government, the telecommunications industry, and stakeholders from various sectors, Hong Kong will surely leverage its advantages to drive the development of new productive forces with innovative technology, seize the new opportunities presented by the AI era, solidify its position as an international innovation technology center, and create a future that is higher quality and more vibrant.
