In the first half of the year, the telecommunications industry operated relatively steadily, with the construction of new infrastructure progressing steadily. The user scale of 5G, gigabit, and the Internet of Things continued to expand, and mobile internet access traffic maintained rapid growth.
According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in the first half of the year, the cumulative revenue from telecommunications services reached 887.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%. Calculated at constant prices from the previous year, the total telecommunications services volume grew by 7.7% year-on-year. The scale of mobile phone users showed steady growth, with rapid development in 5G users. By the end of June, the total number of mobile phone users of the three major telecommunications companies and China Broadcasting reached 1.844 billion, an increase of 17.04 million users compared to the end of last year. Among them, the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 1.288 billion, an increase of 84.34 million users compared to the end of last year, accounting for 69.9% of mobile phone users. I. Overall Operation Status In the first half of the year, the cumulative revenue from telecommunications services reached 887.3 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%. Telecommunications User Development The number of fixed broadband access users has steadily increased, with the scale of gigabit users continuing to expand. By the end of June, the total number of fixed internet broadband access users of the three major telecommunications companies reached 701 million, an increase of 10.24 million users compared to the end of last year. Among them, the number of fixed internet broadband access users with an access rate of 100 Mbps or higher reached 670 million, accounting for 95.6% of the total user base; the number of fixed internet broadband access users with an access rate of 1000 Mbps or higher reached 25.8 million, an increase of 1.949 million users compared to the end of last year, accounting for 36.8% of the total user base, an increase of 1 percentage point compared to the first quarter. The scale of mobile phone users has shown steady growth, with rapid development in 5G users. By the end of June, the total number of mobile phone users of the three major telecommunications companies and China Broadcasting reached 1.844 billion, an increase of 17.04 million users compared to the end of last year. Among them, the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 1.288 billion, an increase of 84.34 million users compared to the end of last year, accounting for 69.9% of mobile phone users. By the end of June, the three major telecommunications companies had developed 2.994 billion mobile IoT terminal users, an increase of 106 million users compared to the end of last year. The number of internet television (IPTV, OTT) users reached 409 million, an increase of 990,000 users compared to the end of last year. III. Telecommunications Service Usage Mobile internet traffic has grown rapidly, with the DOU (daily average user traffic) in June maintaining a high level. In the first half of the year, the cumulative mobile internet traffic reached 219.7 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 17.7%. By the end of June, the number of mobile internet users reached 1.636 billion, an increase of 25.91 million users compared to the end of last year. In June, the average mobile internet access traffic (DOU) reached 23.57 GB/usermonth, a year-on-year increase of 13.6%, which is 0.53 GB/usermonth higher than at the end of last year. The volume of phone calls has continued to decline. In the first half of the year, the call duration for outgoing mobile phone calls was 946.9 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 6.2%; the call duration for outgoing fixed-line calls was 27.93 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 20.4%. In the first half of the year, the volume of national mobile SMS services decreased by 8% year-on-year; the revenue from mobile SMS services decreased by 12.9% year-on-year. IV. Communication Capacity Situation The total length of optical cable lines has steadily increased. By the end of June, the total length of optical cable lines nationwide reached 76.12 million kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%. Among them, the shares of access network optical cables, local network relay optical cables, and long-distance optical cables are 60.5%, 38%, and 1.5%, respectively. The construction of gigabit optical fiber broadband networks is progressing in an orderly manner. By the end of June, the number of internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.27 billion, an increase of 17.9 million ports compared to the end of last year. Among them, fiber access (FTTH/O) ports reached 1.23 billion, an increase of 15.52 million ports compared to the end of last year, accounting for 96.6% of the total internet broadband access ports. By the end of June, the number of 10G PON ports capable of providing gigabit network services reached 32.86 million, an increase of 1.241 million compared to the end of last year. The construction of 5G networks continues to deepen. By the end of June, the total number of 5G base stations reached 5.102 million, an increase of 263,000 compared to the end of last year, accounting for 39.1% of the total number of mobile base stations, which is an increase of 0.9 percentage points compared to the first quarter. V. Regional Development Situation Regions are accelerating the penetration of gigabit and 5G users. By the end of June, the penetration rates of fixed broadband access users of 1000 Mbps and above in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions were 36.1%, 37.4%, 38.3%, and 31.8%, respectively, increasing by 1.5, 3.5, 2.2, and 2.8 percentage points compared to the end of last year; the penetration rates of 5G mobile phone users were 69.4%, 70.8%, 69.7%, and 70.6%, respectively, increasing by 3.9, 4.3, 3.8, and 4.1 percentage points compared to the end of last year. Regions have maintained rapid growth in mobile internet access traffic. In the first half of the year, the mobile internet access traffic in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions reached 93.18 billion GB, 51.18 billion GB, 62.24 billion GB, and 13.09 billion GB, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of 19.4%, 15.8%, 16.5%, and 18.7%.
