Hang Seng Index Company: In July, the Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng H-Share Index ETF rose by 13.1% and 13.9%, respectively.
The Hong Kong stock market (represented by the Hang Seng Composite Index) rose by 10.9% in July. The Hang Seng Index and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index increased by 13.1% and 13.9%, respectively.
According to data released by the Hang Seng Index Company, the Hong Kong stock market (represented by the Hang Seng Composite Index) rose by 10.9% in July. The Hang Seng Index and Hang Seng H-Share Index ETF increased by 13.1% and 13.9% respectively, while the Hang Seng Volatility Index and the Hang Seng National Index Volatility Index declined by 17% and 11%, to 21 and 24.
The Hang Seng Tech Index, which tracks leading technology companies listed in Hong Kong, rose by 8.0% in July. The Hang Seng Biotechnology Index, which tracks large biotechnology companies listed in Hong Kong, increased by 9.8% in July.
The Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect China 500 Index, which reflects the performance of the 500 largest listed companies in Hong Kong and mainland China, recorded a decrease of 1.4% in July. In contrast, the Hang Seng A-Share Stock Connect 300 Index, which reflects the performance of the 300 largest listed companies in mainland China, saw a decline of 7.0%. Among the industry indices of the Hang Seng Composite Index, non-essential consumer goods performed relatively well in July (+19.2%), while the industrial sector underperformed (-8.2%). In the Hang Seng Index series, the Hang Seng Composite Industry Index - Non-essential Consumer Goods performed the best (+19.2%), followed by the Hang Seng Stock Connect Non-ferrous Metals Industry Index (+18.4%) and the Hang Seng Stock Connect China Private Enterprises Index (+17.7%).
Within the thematic index series, the Hang Seng Stock Connect Mainland Bank Index performed well in the Hong Kong market (+14.1%); meanwhile, the Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovative Medicines Selected 50 Index performed well in the mainland/cross-market (+6.9%). In the ESG index series, the Hang Seng National ESG Enhanced Index performed well in the Hong Kong market (+14.6%); while the Hang Seng Mainland and Hong Kong Sustainable Development Enterprises Index performed well in the mainland/cross-market (+6.2%).
In the factor index series, the Hang Seng Large and Mid-Cap Low Volatility Select Index, which tracks the "low volatility" factor, rose by 12.1% in July, outperforming all other factor select indices in the Hong Kong market. The Hang Seng A-Share Low Volatility Select Index (-5.6%) and the Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect China Low Volatility Select Index (+3.9%) performed better in the mainland and cross-market, respectively.
The Hang Seng Shanghai-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect Greater Bay Area Composite Index fell by 3.0%. In the industry, thematic/factor and strategy classification indices, the sectors that performed well were consumer services (+11.3%) and quality growth (+13.0%).
As of July 31, the total assets under management of products passively tracking the Hang Seng Index series were approximately $112.54 billion (+6.2%). The assets under management for exchange-traded products linked to the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng H-Share Index ETF, and Hang Seng Tech Index were approximately $22.3 billion (+9.3%), $8 billion (+2.3%), and $40.3 billion (-0.4%) respectively.
