The Statistics and Census Service of Macao: From April to June, the unemployment rate for local residents rose slightly by 0.1 percentage points compared to March to May.
Overall, the unemployment rate (1.9%) has increased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous period, while the underemployment rate (1.8%) has decreased by 0.1 percentage points.
According to data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau, the addition of new workforce participants as some recent graduates enter the labor market in search of their first job has led to an increase in the workforce. The unemployment rate among local residents from April to June 2026 (2.4%) rose slightly by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous period (March to May 2026), while the underemployment rate (2.3%) declined by 0.1 percentage points.
Among the unemployed (7,100 individuals), those who were previously employed in the retail and gaming sectors make up the majority. Additionally, the proportion of unemployed residents seeking their first job increased by 3.4 percentage points to 12.7%. Among the underemployed residents (6,800 individuals), most were engaged in business services and transportation and warehousing.
Overall, the unemployment rate (1.9%) increased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous period, while the underemployment rate (1.8%) decreased by 0.1 percentage points.
In the second quarter of 2026, the median monthly income for local employed residents and the employed population was 20,500 Macao Patacas and 18,000 Macao Patacas, respectively.
