On July 31, the Hang Seng Index Company launched the Hang Seng Hong Kong Stock Connect Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Index. This index is a customized index that reflects the performance of Hong Kong listed companies eligible for trading via the Stock Connect, which provide foundational technologies for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence, covering sectors such as semiconductors, electronic devices, infrastructure, hardware resource suppliers, and related components.
The stock selection criteria for this index includes eligible constituents that can be traded under the Stock Connect and AH shares from the Hang Seng Composite Index. Candidate securities must meet a liquidity requirement of an average daily trading volume of at least HKD 20 million over the past six months, and must be classified under the relevant sub-categories related to artificial intelligence infrastructure in the Hang Seng Industry Classification System, including semiconductors, electrical and electronic components, computers and peripherals, internet services, and infrastructure, among others.
In terms of constituent selection, the index is fixed at 40 constituents; existing constituents ranked below 48 will be removed from the index, while non-constituents ranked 32 or above will be added. The final number of removals and additions will be determined based on market capitalization rankings to maintain a total of 40 constituents. Each constituent is weighted based on free float market capitalization, with a maximum weight of 15% for any single constituent, and the combined weight of the top five constituents not exceeding 60%. The index undergoes a review every six months (data as of the end of June and December each year), with weight adjustments made quarterly.
The index is set with a base date of December 30, 2022, and a base value of 3000, priced in Hong Kong dollars, with real-time updates every 2 seconds. The price index code is .HSSCAII (Refinitiv), while the cumulative dividend index and net cumulative dividend index codes are .HSSCAIIT and .HSSCAIIN (Refinitiv), respectively.
