According to data from the Macao Statistics and Census Bureau, the average hotel occupancy rate in the first half of 2026 rose by 1.3 percentage points year-on-year to 90.4%. Among these, the occupancy rates for five-star (93.8%) and four-star (87.4%) hotels increased by 1.4 and 4.3 percentage points respectively, while the occupancy rate for three-star hotels (84.4%) fell by 1.0 percentage point.
In the first half of this year, the number of hotel guests decreased by 1.1% year-on-year to 7.127 million; guests from mainland China (5.214 million) and the Hong Kong SAR (857,000) both dropped by 2.5%. International guests (662,000) increased by 12.3%, with guests from South Korea (191,000), Thailand (54,000), India (48,000), and the United States (34,000) rising by 13.0%, 43.5%, 16.1%, and 27.8% respectively, while guests from Japan (45,000) and Malaysia (42,000) decreased by 5.6% and 6.0% respectively.
In the first half of the year, the number of inbound travelers in tour groups totaled 845,000, a year-on-year decrease of 12.6%; mainland China group visitors fell by 16.7% to 681,000.
Looking at the monthly data, in June of this year, the average hotel occupancy rate decreased by 2.6 percentage points year-on-year to 85.8%, with the number of guests dropping by 8.6% to 1.095 million; international guests totaled 94,000, an increase of 3.0%. On the other hand, the total number of inbound travelers in tour groups in June decreased by 14.2% year-on-year to 88,000.
