The Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) co-hosted two industry roundtable meetings today (July 23) after signing a memorandum of understanding earlier. The meetings discussed the mutual recognition of listing of companies and investment products.
The two roundtable meetings were the first exchange activities under the newly signed memorandum of understanding, bringing together senior officials from the two exchanges - Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, as well as over 120 industry stakeholders from Malaysia, including representatives from local and international major investment banks.
The Hong Kong delegation led by Ms. Ashley Alder, Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong, consisted of 33 senior executives from Hong Kong asset management companies, brokerages, and investment banks. Key members of the delegation included the Chairmen of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association and the Hong Kong Association of China Fund Industry, and the assets managed by the participating asset management companies collectively accounted for over 80% of the total market value of trading funds and leveraged and inverse products on the HKEX.
During the meetings, the two regulatory bodies reiterated their common vision to strengthen the market connections between Hong Kong and Malaysia. Industry leaders also exchanged views on the opportunities and operational experiences of mutual recognition of listing of companies and investment products, as well as cooperation opportunities in the two markets.
