7 smartphone AI collectively approved! Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) collaborates with Alibaba's Qianwen AI, and Nubia's Dou Bao is also included.
With top manufacturers such as Apple and Byte completing the filing of AI products on the end side, AI smartphones are gradually transitioning from the technology validation stage to the commercial landing stage.
Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) has finally taken a key step in advancing its artificial intelligence business in China.
On July 15th, the Cyberspace Administration of China released a new batch of mobile end-side generative artificial intelligence service filing lists, with a total of 7 AI products approved, including Apple Inc.'s "Apple Intelligence", Huawei's Xiaoyi big model, OPPO AndesGPT, and Nubia Bean Phone Big Model.
Among them, "Apple Intelligence" filed by Apple Inc. Technology Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. was officially approved on July 8th, with the application scenario being Apple Inc. phones. This marks a significant milestone as Apple Inc. finally surpasses the most critical regulatory hurdle in the AI compliance issues it faces in China, bringing the domestic version of Apple Intelligence closer to official launch.
For Apple Inc., AI capabilities are widely seen as an important factor in enhancing the competitiveness of new devices, and this approval signifies a substantial breakthrough for Apple Inc. in China's AI implementation that has been awaited for nearly two years.
Domestic Apple Inc. AI completes filing, last obstacle before launch cleared
According to the notice from the Cyberspace Administration, "Apple Intelligence" has completed the filing for generative artificial intelligence services, becoming one of the 7 approved mobile end-side AI services this time. According to the "Interim Measures for the Administration of Generative Artificial Intelligence Services," filing is a prerequisite for products to officially provide services to the public, meaning that Apple Inc. has obtained the crucial regulatory qualification required for the launch of Apple Intelligence in China.
It was reported that Alibaba Group Holding Limited Sponsored ADR provided some AI capabilities support for the domestic version of Apple Intelligence. Previously, Alibaba Group Holding Limited Sponsored ADR Chairman Jack Ma revealed that after contact with several Chinese companies, Apple Inc. eventually chose Alibaba as its partner to provide localized AI services for Chinese users.
At the end of March this year, Apple Inc. briefly released a testing version of Apple Intelligence to some mainland Chinese users, and closed the entrance about an hour later. Users who successfully activated the function could continue to use it, including real-time translation, visual intelligence, writing tools, photo erasure, and AI image generation functions, indicating that the development of the domestic version had entered a relatively mature stage.
However, the completion of filing does not mean an immediate launch. According to reports, some image recognition functions of the domestic version still need to replace the technology solutions that rely on Alphabet Inc. Class C, while some AI capabilities of the overseas version also need to undergo localization adaptation and compliance adjustments. Therefore, Apple Inc. still needs to complete the final product optimization and regulatory requirements. The official release date has not been announced yet, but with the filing approval, the domestic Apple Intelligence has entered the final sprint stage before launch.
Bean AI phone also approved concurrently, accelerating commercialization of edge AI
In addition to Apple Inc., the filing list this time also includes the Nubia Bean Phone Big Model.
On July 10th, Shanghai Securities News reported that the first Nubia Bean AI smart body phone jointly developed by ByteDance and ZTE Nubia plans to be officially released and go on sale during the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC). The product is currently in the stocking stage, with the first batch of about 500,000 units set aside, of which 80,000 to 100,000 units have already been stocked.
The market had previously expected industry chain companies such as SUNNY OPTICAL, Shenzhen Goodix Technology, Maxic Technology, Inc., to participate in supply, with ZTE Corporation responsible for system-level AI capability integration. The announcement briefly boosted related stocks in the AI terminal industry chain.
With Apple Inc., ByteDance, and other leading manufacturers completing the filing for end-side AI products one after another, AI smartphones are gradually transitioning from the technical validation stage to the commercial deployment stage. Industry competition is also shifting from traditional hardware configurations to AI smart body capabilities, model experiences, and terminal ecosystem development. The edge AI industry chain is expected to receive continuous catalysis.
However, whether AI smartphones can drive a new round of replacement cycles remains to be seen. The ability of AI smart bodies to form strong user stickiness depends on whether the actual experience can continue to create value; at the same time, broader terminal permission calls also mean that privacy protection, data security, and sustainable compliance operation will become important long-term topics for the industry's development.
