South Korea's storage chip giant SK Hynix (SKHY.US) officially started trading American Depositary Receipt (ADR) options on US options exchanges on Tuesday, providing investors in the world's largest derivative market with a new tool to participate in the volatile market of this AI storage chip leader. As of the US stock market's early trading, the trading volume of SK Hynix ADR options has reached about 33,000 contracts, with over two-thirds expiring this Friday for short-term options. In terms of trading activity, the most active trades are the call options with a strike price of $185, with a trading volume of about 2900 contracts; put options with a strike price of $145 closely follow. In addition, the call options expiring in August with a strike price of $200 are also attracting market interest, with a trading volume exceeding 1500 contracts. Daniel Kirsch, head of options trading at Piper Sandler, said that investors are expected to focus on short-term trading opportunities for SK Hynix ADR continuing to rise this week. He pointed out that with the official listing of SK Hynix ADR options, retail investors are expected to quickly enter the market, making short-term call options expiring this Friday possibly the most popular trading instrument. Driven by the enthusiasm for listing, SK Hynix ADR surged over 17% in midday trading on Tuesday. Last week, the company completed its initial public offering (IPO) of American Depositary Receipts, raising approximately $26.5 billion, setting a record for the largest IPO by a foreign company in the US capital market. Recently, there has been a significant increase in volatility in the South Korean stock market. The KOSPI, which is heavily influenced by SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, has experienced large fluctuations, reflecting the market's weighing of the continuous strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and the future risks of industry overcapacity. Kirsch also noted that the chip sector will see other important catalysts this week. Dutch lithography machine manufacturer ASML Holding NV ADR (ASML.US) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Sponsored ADR (TSM.US) will release their latest quarterly earnings, and their financial performance is expected to further impact the entire semiconductor sector and the stock price trend of SK Hynix ADR.
