Ciena (CIEN.US) revenue, gross margin, and EPS all exceeded expectations and future performance guidance was raised. Barclays has increased its target price from $372 to $607 and maintains a rating of buy.
This week, Ciena (CIEN.US) reported earnings that exceeded expectations by a large margin, leading Barclays to raise the target price for this optical communication equipment company from $372 to $607, while maintaining a "hold" rating. Amid pressure in the semiconductor sector, Ciena also experienced a sharp decline, with the stock price falling by over 7% at the time of writing. For the second quarter of fiscal year 2026, ending May 2, Ciena reported total revenue of $15.707 billion, a year-on-year increase of 39.5%; adjusted EPS reached a high of $1.64, a 290% increase compared to the previous year. Both core metrics exceeded market expectations, with the FactSet consensus showing EPS of $1.46 and revenue of approximately $15.1 billion. This means that Ciena's actual performance exceeded expectations by $0.18 per share and around $60 million in revenue. Barclays analyst Tim Long stated in his research report, "Ciena's second quarter revenue, gross margin, and earnings per share all exceeded our previous forecasts. The performance guidance for the third quarter and full fiscal year 2026 are also higher than market expectations. The gross margin for this quarter was impressive, driven by a decrease in research and development production costs, product structure upgrades, and product price increases. As low-priced backlog orders are gradually delivered and consumed in the second half of the year, the benefits of price adjustments will be more fully reflected in the financial reports; going forward, relying on the increased volume of Hyper-Rail high-end optical products and continuously optimizing production costs and pricing strategies, the gross margin for the fiscal year 2027 is expected to further increase."
