On Thursday, Qualcomm (QCOM.US) fell more than 4%, closing at $203.36. According to data from Sigmaintell, in the first quarter of 2026, the total shipment volume of global smartphone SoCs was around 290 million units, a decrease of about 4.0% compared to the previous year. The impact was most pronounced in the mid-to-low-end smartphone market targeted at price-sensitive users, as rising costs led to higher prices at the end, suppressing consumer demand and causing brands to reduce inventory and chip purchases, particularly affecting the sales of smartphones priced at around a thousand yuan. Data shows that Qualcomm's smartphone SoC shipment volume in the first quarter was 71 million units, a 7% decrease compared to the same period last year.
