Anthropic announced the official launch of 10 pre-built AI agent templates for the financial services industry. CEO Dario Amodei warns that software as a service (SaaS) companies that fail to adapt to the AI wave will face the risk of "complete collapse."
Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, announced on Tuesday the official launch of 10 ready-to-use AI agent templates tailored for the financial services industry, aiming to replace high time-consuming tasks including building pitchbooks, KYC document screening, and month-end closings. Meanwhile, the company's CEO, Dario Amodei, cautioned in a industry dialogue on the same day that software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies failing to adapt to the AI trend will face the risk of "complete collapse". Meeting the demands of the financial industry: 10 AI agent templates go live Anthropic stated that these 10 AI agents are integrated in plug-in form into their Claude Cowork and Claude Code products and are also available as recipes for the Claude hosted agent. With these tools, financial professionals can apply Claude to real work scenarios in a matter of days rather than months. In terms of software integration, Claude already supports Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word through Microsoft 365 plugins, and Outlook plugin will be available soon. Additionally, Claude is connected to dozens of market data and research platforms, including S&P Capital IQ, MSCI, PitchBook, Morningstar, Chronograph, LSEG, and Daloopa, as well as supporting internal data warehouses, research libraries, and CRM systems of client companies. New connectors include Dun & Bradstreet, Fiscal AI, IBISWorld, and Verisk. The 10 AI agent templates include: Pitchbook Builder, Meeting Preparer, Model Builder, Market Researcher, Valuation Auditor, General Ledger Reconciler, Month-end Closer, Report Auditor, and KYC Screener, covering nearly all core time-consuming processes from front to back office. Severe warning: The "moat of complexity" for software companies is disappearing During the "Briefing: Financial Services" event hosted by Anthropic, in a conversation with JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin, Amodei made it clear that the era of depending on software complexity as a competitive barrier is coming to an end. "I think if your moat is 'our software is complex and hard to write, we can write what others can't', that advantage is disappearing," Amodei stated. He further pointed out that the future trajectory of the existing SaaS company group is uncertain, but individual companies are likely to face shrinking market value, bankruptcy, or even "complete collapse" depending on their response strategies. "Some existing companies will clearly see the moat disappearing, successfully transition, and do better than before; while others will not notice, eventually caught off guard, and go through a very bad period," he added. Industry resonance: SaaS sector under pressure, tech giants are not immune Amodei's warning is not baseless. While some analysts believe SaaS companies are more likely to integrate AI into their services to meet customer demands - for example, Microsoft has provided an AI assistant Copilot in the Microsoft 365 suite, and Google has integrated Gemini into Google Workspace - the market has seen a significant pullback. Data shows that ServiceNow's stock price has fallen by 39% since the beginning of the year, Snowflake by 35%, and Thomson Reuters by 28%. Microsoft is also facing headwinds from the selloff in the software sector, with market doubts about its ability to meet customers' AI computing needs, resulting in a 15% drop in its stock price since the beginning of the year. Analysts believe that Anthropic's launch of financial AI agent templates is a practical demonstration of their assertion that "AI will reshape the software value chain". By significantly lowering the barrier for enterprises to deploy AI, Anthropic not only provides efficiency tools for the financial industry but also sends a clear signal to all SaaS companies: either proactively transform or risk being eliminated from the market.
