The latest "Small Business Survey of the Asia-Pacific Region 2025-2026" released by the Australian Society of Accountants shows that the operational performance of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong continues to improve, with several key indicators reaching historical highs, reflecting a significant improvement in the overall business environment and a significant increase in business confidence.
The survey indicates that the proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hong Kong recording business growth in 2025 increased from 65% in 2024 to 68%, reaching a new high in nearly 10 years. At the same time, 71% of the surveyed enterprises expect business to continue expanding this year, while 76% anticipate further improvement in the local economy. Both of these figures set new record highs since the survey began.
Ye Yun, director of the Greater China Regional Branch of the Australian Society of Accountants, stated that the improvement in the business environment was a key factor driving the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises last year. He pointed out that with stable capital markets and a variety of sporting events driving activity, the tourism and consumer markets in Hong Kong continued to recover, and with the real estate market stabilizing, multiple favorable factors collectively boosted overall business confidence and economic momentum.
He further pointed out that in a favorable external environment, small businesses not only benefit from increased business activity, but also have greater opportunities to achieve healthy and sustainable business expansion.
