The Ministry of Transportation released the operational data of urban rail transit in March.
According to the Ministry of Transport, in March 2026, a total of 54 cities in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps opened and operated 345 urban rail transit lines, with an operating mileage of 11,778.2 kilometers. The actual number of trains operated was 3.85 million, serving a total of 2.98 billion passengers, with 1.77 billion passengers entering the stations. In March, passenger volume increased by 810 million compared to the previous month, an increase of 37.3%, and an increase of 100 million compared to the same period last year, representing a 3.5% increase. The average passenger intensity of the national total operating mileage in March was 0.817 million passengers per kilometer per day. Among them, 43 cities opened and operated 283 subway and light rail lines, with an operating mileage of 10,188.6 kilometers, serving a total of 2.87 billion passengers, with 1.7 billion passengers entering the stations. In addition, 18 cities opened and operated 27 monorail, maglev, and urban rapid transit lines, with an operating mileage of 1,032.9 kilometers, serving a total of 95.59 million passengers, with 62.51 million passengers entering the stations. Furthermore, 19 cities opened and operated 35 tram and automatic guided rail lines, with an operating mileage of 556.7 kilometers, serving a total of 11.29 million passengers, with 10.72 million passengers entering the stations.
